3rd and 5th graders from Irasburg Village School took a field trip to Butterworks Farm in Westfield, VT to learn about how yogurt is made and what the process of running a Vermont dairy farm looks like. Students had the chance to meet farmers Erica and Sam, get a tour of the dairy, meet all of the milking cows and calves, try some maple yogurt and butter, and have their questions answered by the farmers. This was a fun day of learning and connecting to the people and animals who provide us with delicious dairy products!
The students enjoyed the field trip so much that one 3rd grader shared enthusiastically, “I want to be a farmer when I grow up!” And a 5th grader added, “I don’t want to leave the cows! Can we stay forever?”
