A favorite moment from your year(s) of service:

Every Thursday for the past two years, I’ve gone to the same elementary school to facilitate an afterschool program. We made tons of memories playing farm-to-school games and doing garden activities. On our final day they surprised me with ice-cream sundaes and thank you cards. We spent the afternoon eating ice cream and telling stories about our afterschool program.

An accomplishment from the year that you are proud of:

The past two years for my professional development, I had the privilege to be the public speaking coach for North Country Career Centers Envirothon teams. In back to back years the teams won first and second place in the competition overall as well as first and second in the oral presentation category. I’m incredibly proud of the public speakers those high schoolers have become.

Something you learned that you will take with you:

I learned how important it is to be flexible with program planning. When working with kids you always have to be prepared to adjust your programming to accommodate energy levels and different teaching environments.

Where are you headed next?

Right now I’m still searching! I’m pursuing a career in nonprofit farm-to-school/ environmental education. Hopefully somewhere on the West Coast!
