On February 15th, our four Americorps Farm-To-School Coordinators had the pleasure of representing GMFTS at NOFA-VT’s Winter Conference in Burlington, VT. Not only did they attend workshops led by premiere educators, scientists, artists, and farmers, but they also led their own sessions for children visiting the conference.
Farm-to-School Coordinators, Lily Riesett and Olivia Anderson, introduced children to new things they could do with dried seeds. They made their own seed packets to fill with dried seeds and save for the Spring. Later, they created mosaics out of old seeds, learning how to create patterns with different seed shapes and sizes. Farm-to-School Coordinators, Marlow Saucier and Courtney Fortunato, led an apple taste-test for students, where they got to try different varieties of organic apples.
The team also attended talks on topics such as herbal remedies, farming in a changing climate, and ancient grains. They were able to network with leaders in Vermont’s organic farming community. Thank you NOFA-VT for cultivating a day full of education, leadership, and fun!
