June 11, 2018
Green Mountain Farm-to-School (GMFTS) would like to extend its most sincere thank you to supporters of its first-ever Giving Day held on June 1, 2018. The day brought in over $20,000 in gifts, along with a $10,000 matching gift from a generous anonymous donor, bringing the total raised to over $30,000.
The funds come at an important time for GMFTS as spring and summer are the busiest seasons for the organization. Over the next few months, GMFTS staff will be working hard to implement the organization’s four programs, each contributing to the mission of restoring and strengthening Vermont’s local food systems through positive economic and educational relationships between schools, farms, and communities.
Our AmeriCorps Farm-to-School Coordinators are busy planting and maintaining school gardens and teaching students what it takes to grow food. Green Mountain Farm Direct, our mission-driven food hub, is distributing fresh spring and summer crops to customers throughout northern Vermont. Vermont Harvest of the Month is working to promote local Vermont crops and develop free educational material for the upcoming school year. And The Lunchbox food truck is out and about serving free meals to kids in our community from June 20th to August 24th.
The funds raised through the Giving Day will all go to ensure these programs are operating at their highest capacity and creating the greatest impact in our community.
GMFTS is very grateful for the community of supporters who contributed to the Giving Day campaign. Each contributor is a valued partner in our journey to cultivate healthy communities through food and education.
