In early December, Green Mountain Farm to School (GMFTS)’s local food hub, Green Mountain Farm Direct (GMFD), successfully engaged in it’s first hub-to-hub transaction in an effort to expand the product catalog for the holidays. GMFD is part of a Food Hub Collaborative project that links five different Vermont food hubs in the interest of sharing knowledge, resources, and to expand offerings region wide. GMFD allows schools, institutions, restaurants, and retailers in the Northeast Kingdom and beyond to easily purchase fresh, local food from multiple farms and producers using one simplified online catalog and delivery service.

This first first hub-to-hub transaction brought three new producers on board for the holiday season: Berkshire Bark, Maple Mama Beverages, and Terra Nova Coffee. These producers offered brand new products for farm direct consumers, including delicious handmade chocolate bark, all-natural craft sparkling beverages, and organic, responsibly sourced coffee.

These new products were purchased from Food Connects in Brattleboro. GMFD then utilized The Intervale Food Hub to to cross-dock the products, thus engaging two of the food hubs within the Vermont Food Hub Collaborative.

Amrita Parry, Food Hub Accounts Manager, says “We chose these products because we wanted to round out our product list and offer some new and exciting retail ready products for the holidays. Customer feedback has been good and we are hoping this is the beginning of an expanded product catalog!”
