As a nonprofit serving Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom region and beyond, Green Mountain Farm-to-School works to strengthen our local food systems and increase equitable access to local foods.
Who We Serve
Farms
We help Vermont farms and food businesses grow by connecting them with local buyers, from schools to co-ops. At the same time, we provide targeted marketing and sales support.

We connect students to food through hands-on farm-to-school programs in Northeast Kingdom schools, including cooking, gardening, and farm field trips. We also help schools across Northern and Central Vermont buy more from nearby farms and improve the quality of school meals.

We’re a proud distributor of @kingdomcreameryofvermont. For three generations, this family-run farm in East Hardwick, Vermont has produced high quality milk and dairy products.🥛🐄

Sparrow Arc Farm, in Guildhall, VT, is our only producer from Essex County, but they grow a critical crop for our local food system: POTATOES. One buyer called them, "The absolute best potatoes I’ve ever eaten in my life."
@northeastkingdompotatoco is an iconic NEK brand, providing tasty, affordable potatoes to the region`s schools. In 2025, Sparrow Arc`s potatoes were served in 30 different Vermont schools.
Potato season starts this fall. Look for their rustic brown paper bags at stores, farm stands (@chandlerpondfarm and @chamberlinsfarm), and on menus (@corkvt and @philoridgefarm) near you.

It was a hot and humid week at The Lunchbox, but that didn’t stop kids from getting creative painting rocks for their gardens and homes. Some artists made ladybugs while others learned about color theory through mixing paints. We loved seeing all of the masterpieces that were created throughout the week! 🎨🐞🚲
Thank you to Ticket to Ride Vermont for visiting us in Irasburg to help kids ditch the training wheels. It was so exciting to see so many kids feel confident biking around the park!
At the Market Basket table we had summer squash coming out of our ears! Italian squash, pattypan squash, cocozelle zucchinis, and green zucchini all got taken home with families to be sautéed, turned into zucchini muffins or delicious fritters.

It’s the final week of service for our current AmeriCorps team!
Over the past year, Alex, Anna Belle, and Ella have served our communities with passion, care, and dedication. As our AmeriCorps Farm-to-School Coordinators, they are an essential part of our team, bringing hands-on Farm-to-School lessons, workshops, field trips, and afterschool programs to our partner schools during the school year. Throughout the summer, they care for our school gardens and help make The Lunchbox summer meal program a success.
We are incredibly grateful for all that this team has contributed over the past year. We wish Alex and Ella the very best as they begin their next adventures, and we’re excited that Anna Belle will be returning for a second year of service with us!

It’s the season of abundance! The 13 school gardens we care for are bursting with fresh fruits and vegetables. 🥬🥒
Throughout the summer, much of the harvest is donated to The Lunchbox summer meal program and shared with families through our Market Basket table, helping connect the community with fresh, local food.
Our AmeriCorps Farm-to-School Coordinators, along with community volunteers, have worked hard to grow thriving gardens that will continue producing into the fall. When students return to school, they’ll have the opportunity to harvest the late-summer and fall crops, using them for hands-on learning in the classroom and fresh meals in the cafeteria.

Ditch the training wheels and learn how to ride a bike with Ticket to Ride in Irasburg on Tuesday. In Barton, learn the power of doodling with Ilene Fox. Stop by the activity table to do some rock painting, and, as always, take home some fresh vegetables from the Market Basket! 🥬🍅

We were so lucky to have the greatest show in town join us at The Lunchbox this week! Thank you to the @CircusSmirkus Summer Roadshow for putting on a fantastic show full of good energy and fun tricks for us. 🎪
In addition to all the circus fun, we were proud to provide oodles and oodles of fresh summer vegetables through the Market Basket table! Families took home cucumbers, tomatoes, kale, eggplants, Swiss chard, Italian zucchini, and more to make delicious home-cooked meals. 🥬🍅
We can’t wait to see you next week with even more yummy veggies, nutritious free meals, and fun activities!
@fourtownlowlines has been an incredible partner in our mission to make first-rate, local food accessible and affordable for Vermonters.
