Green Mountain
Programs: Farm Direct
Green Mountain Farm Direct (GMFD) is a regional food distribution system that provides Vermont farm products to schools and other institutions.

GMFD’s services include:
  • Local food product list representing multiple farms and producers
  • One-stop ordering for institutions from multiple farm sources
  • Coordinated deliveries from multiple farms in our region
  • Training and networking opportunities for farms, schools, and other institutions
  • Educational activities and marketing materials for cafeterias

How it works:
  1. Twice a month, GMFD consolidates the availability lists from each partner farm into one local food product list. The list is sent out to GMFD sites, including schools, senior meal sites and other institutions.
  2. Sites place their orders for all local food products with GMFD, then GMFD places orders for products with each farm as necessary.
  3. Farms and/or GMFD deliver to the sites.
Through one-stop, easy ordering and coordinated delivery, purchases through GMFD strengthen our local economy, provide Vermonters with healthy, fresh food, and build lasting relationships in our communities.

During the 2009-2010 academic year

GMFD worked with 7 schools and 4 senior meal sites to purchase local food from 13 Vermont farms.
